Wool carpet offers a classic and natural beauty as good as – or even better than - synthetic fibers. Shorn from sheep, wool is 100% natural, renewable and completely biodegradable. The unique structure and naturally occurring proteins make wool stain and crush resistant, providing superior, long lasting practical performance.
Wool carpet absorbs indoor air pollutants, including three with known adverse health effects commonly found in the home: Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and formaldehyde (HCOH). Wool carpet actually acts as an air filter, trapping particles on the surface for easy vacuum removal. This reduces the risk of breathing in harmful particulate pollutants, such as dust, dirt, bugs, pollen, and pet allergens. Wool is also hypo-allergenic and does not promote the growth of dust mites, bacteria or mold. Its moisture absorbency can pull humidity out of the air while its natural fire resistance adds an extra layer of safety in the home. Together these features make wool carpet a great looking, long lasting, and safe choice to enhance any room environment.
Plant-fiber carpets are also popular for their durability and eco-friendly aspects. Seagrass is fast-growing, smooth, and has anti-static fibers - available only in natural hue. Sisal (from the agave plant) with easily dyed fibers is versatile but not highly stain resistant. Coir (from coconut husks) which is coarse with a naturally rustic appearance and feel is good for entranceways and other areas used with shoes. and various mountain grass materials with hemp-like textured is soft but durable.
